This is spooky season ππ»π€
The weather here in D.C. has finally shifted. The humidity is gone, the air feels crisp, the mosquitos are unfortunately still biting. But hopefully, soon, theyβll be gone too.
Halloween is coming! And with it, tons of events, candy, and writing/art challenges.
Open Doors Festival
October 18-19, 2024 | Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company
The Open Doors Festival is a celebration of disability culture through the arts, for and by people with disabilities. It elevates the voices of artists with disabilities and builds community with artists and organizations invested in disability arts in the DMV region.
Iβm thrilled to be participating in the festival again this year! Iβll be reading poetry at Woolly Mammoth Theatre on October 19.
This year, there will be performances on October 18 on the Millenium Stage at the Kennedy Center and October 19 at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company. The festival includes performances, workshops, an arts market, and opportunities to network. The full schedule of events will be announced soon.
Inktober
October 2024 | online
This one is writing-adjacent, for our artist friends, but I donβt see why you couldnβt use the prompts to inspire poetry or fiction too. Inktober was created in 2009 by comic artist Jake Parker as a way to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. Itβs now become a worldwide challenge where artists follow a set of prompts for the month of October and share their creations on social media. According to the Inktober site, βanyone can do Inktober, just pick up a pen and start drawing.β Have fun with it!
In poetry and peace,
Marlena
